2011 Roofwalkers is a film about a young Georgian
man, Levan, who is detached from the society in which he lives. He works
as a tram conductor, but despite the fact that he works among the people,
he is removed from any social contact. When he comes home after work,
he eats alone. Then he climbs to the balcony and goes to the roof. On
the roof sits his 78 years-old neighbor Henk. They talk, joke and observe
the skyline. In their conversation Levan's desire is expressed. He wants
to return to Georgia. Henk in contrast, has no more dreams. All he has
is his past and a house full of memories. The two men have found a way
to step out of reality. The roof gives them comfort and freedom. Levan
comes home one day after his daily routine and goes back to the roof.
He looks through the window of his old neighbor. The room is empty.
Levan seats himself in the worn out seat of Henk. He is alone. |
