International Symposium of Shadows

The ISS was organised by Loophole Cinema in collaboration with Studio één (Nl) and Metamkine (F) and took place from 14-20 october 1996 in the old West India Quay Warehouses in the Docklands.

It was a culmination of networking with groups and individuals from the UK, Europe and Canada. Participating artists included Loophole Cinema (UK), David Rokeby (CAN), Simon Lewandowski (UK), Karel Doing (NL), Metamkine (F), Christophe Cardoen (F), Anet van der Elzen (NL), and Joost Rekveld.

"We where within the action of the work and in the view of the audience, the performance was about the machines and the projections and the specific environment we were in. We did appear in the piece, in the form of shadows and then as shadowy technicians (operating projectors and moving screens), but we didn't really act, rather we performed actions essential to the progression of the piece."
